new year eve

New Year's Eve's Eve

Woke up at 5am, wanting to catch the 7am bus to get into downtown so that we can catch the 10am bus to Niagara Falls. You see, Julianne doesn't exactly stay in Toronto, she stays in Mississauga, in the greater Toronto. It take roughly 2 hours to get into town. But.... it was a sunday, and then bus doesn't operate that early. So, we went back to sleep and woke up at 9 instead and then head to downtown.

Caught the 12.30 pm bus from toronto to niagara falls. Took around 2 hours plus to get there and I was just sleeping the whole way. When we got there, we were kinda lost. The bus did not exactly stop us at the falls. We had to make our way to the falls from the bus station. We could have chosen to take a taxi to get us there, but we ended up walking 45 minutes to get to the falls.

As it was a cloudy day, the falls doesn't look as nice as what its' meant to look like in summer.

This is how it should look like with blue skies:

And this was how it was when we were there:

Next, we killed time by walking around the town - Clifton Hill. It reminds me a bit of new york city. Smaller version of NYC. And this was what we did till 9pm whilst waiting for the fireworks.

heaps and heaps of cam-whoring around the town!! (look up facebook for more..lolx!)

And when 9pm came, this was what we got.

Fireworks being lit up at the falls.

And this is at night, when the niagara falls is being lit up ...

with white lights and new york city in the background

with rainbow coloured lights ...

pretty ain't it?

We then caught the 10.30 bus back home. It started to snow. Reached the bus station in toronto at 12 something. Then had to wait till 1.30am to catch the last train back to mississauga. By the time we got home, it was close to 3am and headed to bed.

New Year's Eve

Woke up at 12pm. Booked our one night accommodation in downtown toronto as we don't want to get caught in traffic early new year's day. By the time we got to the backpackers in downtown, it was already 5 something. I'm telling you, it just takes ages to get to downtown. Now I understand why my friend hardly goes to downtown. Lol! As we didn't have our breakfast nor lunch for that whole day, we had one of our frozen meal that we bought from No Frills before hitting town which is 20 mins walk from the backpackers. That was our dinner. Frozen meal.

Wanted to shop whilst waiting for the countdown but shops closed at 6pm. Damn... so, we headed to starbucks to grab some hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. And because I was still hungry, not only I had my peppermint hot chocolate, I drank two cups of milk that was "free". Haha! It was meant for people to add it to their coffee but I just drank them alone. Hehehe...

At 8, we headed to Nathan Phillips Square, where they were doing the countdown. We managed to get a spot near the front but it got super crowded really quick. Everyone was just touching everyone, pushing each other, shoulders rubbing shoulders. Ewwwwww...

The pre-show started at 8 and the bands performed were PM, Sky Sweetnam, Samba Squad, Carried Away and The Midway State. Yes, I googled it coz I can't remember all the names plus I haven't heard of any. Haha! The one that stood out the most was Carried Away. Love their songs.

The band Carried Away

Halfway throughout the performance, it started to snow. And it didn't stop till.... till .... it didn't stop at all basically. Haha!

The official party kicked off at 11pm, where it was broadcasted live on CityTV. jDIGGZ and Roz Bell performed and again, I have no idea who they are. Lolx! But, Roz Bell was pretty good. Then, the main highlight of the night (apart from the countdown) and perhaps for most - Plain White T's! They sang three songs - Hate(I really don't like you), Hey There Delilah and ended 2007 with Our Time Now. What a great way to end it!!

When the clock striked 12, we had a firework display. To be honest, I've seen better. Last year's fireworks at The Curve was better. But hey! The concert made up for it. haha!! After the fireworks, the show wasn't over. They had the cast from We Will Rock You performing on stage. Hence, the New Year started with the song We Will Rock You and then We Are the Champions.

Definitely a rockin' way to kick start the new year. Something different. What's best is... we had no idea the celebration was gonna be this big nor did we know that Plain White Ts was gonna even be there. We didn't even know there was gonna be a concert. All we knew when we decided to go to Nathan Phillips Square to countdown was that there's gonna be heaps of people doing the countdown together so we just decided to tag along. An awesome surprise and I love it how it was so unexpected, unplanned and..... FREE. Teehee :p

So yeaa... that..... that's how I welcomed 2008 along with 40,000 other people and with snow!

the last picture of me in 2007

Would I do it again?Atm... nahh.. once is enough. Don't really enjoy rubbing shoulders with so many strangers and getting pushed around especially when the concert was over. Man! That was scary. So hard to get out of the place. Everyone was pushing each other. Human traffic was pretty bad. So yea.. once is enough for the experience and the feel of it for me :p
